Throughout my career experiences and higher education, I have learned that collaborative leadership approaches are necessary when complex organizational initiatives and projects require expertise and actions across organizations and sectors that require new ways of doing things and innovative processes.

Based on multiple constituency and change management theories, successful collaborative leadership approaches focus on building long-term relationships with knowledgeable and influential key players based upon their credibility and trust, and using that trust as the basis for working on mutually beneficial outcomes together.

This process, when carefully nurtured, can create very powerful actions that have far reaching strategic value and lasting results.

The essence of collaborative leadership processes include:

Authentic relationships
Respect for roles and responsibilities
Mutual Benefits
Joint Actions

Collaborative leadership approaches take more time up front to build trust and identify shared values and mutually beneficial outcomes.  But when implemented well, it will serve to accelerate progress, especially in the areas of leadership development, capacity building, major community and economic development and strategic infrastructure projects and initiatives.

I have also utilized community based programming strategies in my work during the last two decades to create needed project leadership and ownership that led to successful project processes and outcomes.  Both collaborative leadership and community based programming are innovative approaches that create relationships and space for the creation of new knowledge and innovative solutions to complex projects and programs that span across organizational and industry sectors.  I look forward to sharing these approaches with you in work toward your community or organizational objectives and targeted outcomes.
